I have a dirty little secret. My name is Xander Wulf, and I’m a shifter who was raised by humans.

Yep.

They didn’t know, of course. Hell, I didn’t either, until my fourteenth summer. I assumed, considering the circumstances, it was the urge to fuck. Something had struck me periodically for years, but I’d ignored it, convinced myself I was ill or too hot or, eventually, that I was just randy.

The day it happened, I was supposed to be chopping wood, preparing, as it seemed we always did, for winter. It was never too soon, my adopted father was fond of saying.

That particular day, I managed to convince Jayne Smyth to go for a walk in the forest. There was a stream nearby, with a sandy area tucked between a handful of boulders that I thought would be perfect for a rendezvous. I’d been feeling those urges again, and they were getting damned difficult to ignore. The panting, breaking out in a cold sweat, the itchy feeling under my skin, like ants were crawling all over my body. I swear, this morning, I’d glanced in the looking glass and my eyes were glowing. Eyes don’t glow. Human eyes don’t, at any rate.

I decided it was time to do something about it. I needed to lose my innocence; surely that was the problem. Every day I vigorously pumped myself, sometimes two or three times even, in an effort to relieve the strange sensation, but it never quite went away. Clearly, I needed a woman to help with the matter.

Unfortunately, things didn’t quite go as planned. Oh sure, I managed to lure Jayne to the sandy area next to the stream. And she had certainly appeared willing when I’d wrapped my arms around her and pressed my lips to hers. Hell, she’d tugged her dress over her head without so much as a muttered desperate plea from me.

I’d started panting like a damn dog, staring at her bare breasts, at the dark triangle of hair at the apex of her thighs. My shaft had swelled, my heart rate quickened, and when I’d reached for the laces on my pants, I glanced down and noticed my hand was … a paw.

A furry paw with long, sharp claws. I lifted it to my face to stare at it and Jayne’s eyes widened before she screamed, so loudly I was certain the gods would come down from the clouds to check on us. While she ran away without grabbing her dress, I shifted for the first time, and in the space of one heart beat to the other, I stood on four paws, fur covering my body, a wolf staring back at me from the depths of the stream.

That certainly explained those odd sensations I’d been feeling for years. Well, not entirely.

I still wanted to get laid.
