Celebrate The Small Things #1

Small things need love too! So here I am to take notice in my first ever celebrate the small things post, to reflect, and find the positive.

My top 5 small things to celebrate this week:

5) Scissors are the best thing.

4) I only had two migraines this week!

3) I managed to create 5 new clay pieces.

2) I found a new story idea, I'm putting together a world filled with dragons...special dragons. I will tell you more later when I have done more developing writing wise and have a steady idea of it...but I'm excited.

1) I have awesome friends who bring me pie out of the blue.

Celebrate the small things is an encouraging hop, be sure to stop over and check out others who are celebrating too.

What are you celebrating this week?

Have you reported reviewers?

Recently I ran into a odd position. I found a reviewer who was attacking/bullying in my opinion. It started on one of my books- this reviewer left a review talking about how "the author must be a virgin who has never even masturbated'.

Normally I let reviews go, let them slide off, most the time I don't read them but I had glanced down at a recent review to see that line and suddenly I clicked the review to see what was actually said.
The review ended up being reported and was immediately taken down, as I had discussed the review and my options with another author-

What are you going to do in that kind of position?

Needless to say, I didn't get back to the review to report it as abusive, but it had been reported by another and swiftly removed.

At that point I started looking into if maybe the reviewer just really disliked my book so much, but upon further inspection of the review logs for the person on amazon, I found several other instances where the reviewer made similar remarks on other author's books- authors I don't know and yes I reported them.

I do believe in giving an honest opinion- I do not believe in bullying indie authors.

Feel free to give authors one stars, two stars, three stars, but you do not need to attack them on any personal level- tell people why you don't like the book- whether or not an author is a virgin(or anything of the like) has no baring on your actual review.

I'm not really sure what motivates people to behave this way, but I don't think we should sit by and pretend like it's not happening, or roll over it because it's not our problem.

When it happens to you, it becomes your problem too, and the more it's ignored the further it spreads.

Please, if you see bullying in reviews, report them.

Creating my days away...

Rainbows, hearts, and unicorn farts.

Bet that got your attention! It did mine when the new clay theme came out in a group of crafters I'm involved with. They do this amazing thing where the lead lady comes up with a theme for the end of the month- you have all month to create something new based off that theme and then submit it to her for approval in order to sell it in a group of people eager to buy your creations.

I have done this one other time, previously the theme had been Day of the Dead- and it was an amazing experience.
So I'm trying again this month...

Sneak peaky at my creation: If it doesn't get approved I will post about it, if it does get approved I will post about it. Either way the entire picture will get revealed...

Have a great Wednesday!

My elf will be wolf cursed...

He's been bespelled as a wolf, guarding the elementals...She's the only one who can break the spell.

Today I start a brand new story that will go into my Trouble with Elves # 7. The only thing I really know is my male elf is in wolf form and my lady elf has to change him back.

Goal this year- write 2500 words a day!

This story will be a novella and I already have a deadline with my editor on it.
Releasing this spring.

I get excited about new ideas like this. I actually can't wait until tonight when I can just dig right in. I'm using the last elf book, Traces of Poppy, as a booster point with the elemental forces. They always have an agenda.

What do you think? Male elf isn't a shifter, but he's a wolf...are you excited?

Superstitions...Siberia: Knock 3 times -stay home

Most people carry around superstitions. Unlucky seems to be a huge fascination, and add Friday the 13th to any list and it basically explodes with superstitions. In my research to try and find more Siberia related information I didn't find a lot related directly to Friday the 13th, but Siberia, linked closely with Russia- has a lot of different superstitions.

As I move forward in my journey to writing using Siberia I hope to explore some of these superstitions. One that I found particularly entertaining and possibly useful for my stories is this one from a blog back in 2016.

"In case a knife would fall down a man should arrive, if it is a spoon or a fork it should be a woman. If you don’t want that this person comes, you should knock three times with your knife on the side of the table and say “stay home”." ~Sarah from My Siberian Story

If you are going to write about a place...superstitions seems like a great way to start which for me has lead to a gold mine of ideas for stories as I move forward.

Here in the US, Friday the 13th is either celebrated by those who dig into horror movies or dreaded by those who find it unlucky.

My favorite Friday the 13th superstition: Don't let a black cat cross your path.
This apparently has to do with witches and the thought that witches not only use black cats for a familiar but can shape shift into one and possibly curse your path. At least that's what I grew up on.

What is your favorite Superstition- or the one you believe in the most?

Siberia series: new research

I did not realize how huge Siberia really was or that it ranks more as a concept title rather than an actual 'country' or 'place' exactly. People call it Siberia, it's a name that has been tacked on, but revolves around an idea rather than a place.

Okay I don't mean to lose you- but think of it this way Siberia is more mental a state of mind so to speak.

Back in 2011 Mental Floss did a little piece about Siberia, which is where I got started on my idea for my next series...Siberian Paradox. Of course some thing s have changed since 2011, some things are further explained as scientists and researchers began to understand the unexplained...however this is my inspiration.
And I'm running with it.

Be sure to check out the article linked above it's a super short read and very thought provoking...below is my favorite sentence from the article. Tell me in the comments what your thoughts are on Siberia...I'd love to know.

"It appears on atlases as a region but is unconnected to any specific placename; it's more a state of mind. The word itself in Russian -- Sibir -- seems to connote, with its sibilant ess and a rolled-r brr at the end, a shiver."  ~2011 Siberia: What's in a name?

Making 'it' Happen: A ferret lessen

If you have been keeping up with me via social media you know I have two boy ferrets who came to me last year in a bad state. They would bite to draw blood, didn't understand 'playing' because they were -breeder- ferrets, and were not familiar or socialized with people.

One year later and I would like to say Saber- the one who would always bite- doesn't always bite anymore. He has learned how to play with me. I can hold him without being afraid of very sharp teeth sinking into my skin and even bathe him!

Bubba, is very playful, learned quickly not to bite, and one year later has finally curled up in my lap and slept...only 1 time...but progress.

Why would I talk about this? Because it is a learning experience. With patience, support, love, understanding, and consistency I have seen these little guys grow and learn how to love and play back.

If I stay consistent in something, if I stay determined, if I have patience...then I can accomplish whatever I set my mind to.

The hard part: making myself do it no matter what...

When you set your mind to doing something what is the hardest part for you?

Commitments to inanimate objects...

I know what you're thinking...what in the world does this post title mean...well don't be shy, walk in and find out. I promise it won't hurt...

One of the big things I tend to do is talk to things that don't talk back. Why in the world would I do this? Amusement, fun, joy, and because I can. Sometimes it just slips out and I don't even realize I'm talking to whatever thing happens to be in front of me...or flipping it off.

Behold, my 2017 commitments goals given to inanimate objects...

To the green pen that exploded...leaving it's trail of ink along my fingertips and papers:

Just because you exploded doesn't mean I won't write. Ya that's right little green monstery inky thing...I will be completing flash fictions regularly as well as several books for self publication. No don't you dare leak over there!

To the TV remote that tends to stick:

*slaps remote against my palm* You were supposed to exit out of Netflix...I will be doing more writing and engaging with others and not binge watching Supernatural. *remote doesn't listen well so I took the batteries out*

To the bedside clock with flashing blue lights:

Please turn off your brights as I snuggle in to read more books this year. *blue light blinks at me* Now listen- I intend to read at least 12 new books this year *flips clock sideways so the light can't talk back*

Now it's your turn- pick an inanimate object and in the comments tell it one of your 2017 goals. I can't wait to see what you come up with.
